Senior Backend Engineer

We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to own the services that sit behind our core platform. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys designing systems, operating them in production, and raising the standard of the engineering around them. What you will do: - Design, build and operate backend services in Python, using FastAPI or Django, from first design through production incidents. - Model and tune PostgreSQL schemas, indexes and queries at scale, and be the person the team trusts when a query plan goes wrong. - Run services on Kubernetes with sensible observability, alerting and on-call practices, and improve them over time. - Build and maintain asynchronous pipelines using Redis and message queues, with careful attention to idempotency and failure handling. - Design clean, versioned APIs consumed by web clients and by other internal services. - Review code, mentor engineers, and help set the backend standards the rest of the team works to. What we are looking for: - Five or more years building and running production backend systems. - Strong Python and deep, practical PostgreSQL experience, including performance work. - Hands-on Kubernetes and Docker experience in a production environment. - Comfort owning services end to end, including the parts that page you at night. - Solid grounding in distributed systems, caching strategies and API design. - Clear written communication, because a lot of design happens in documents here. Nice to have: Go, Kafka, Terraform, event-driven architectures, and experience in a high-growth product team where priorities move quickly. Location: Pune, India, hybrid. We work in a small senior team with real ownership and very little process for its own sake.
